My Emotions

Right, a different offering here. This is a Detroit Techno styled track I did about two years ago. I recorded this straight live to reel to reel using only analog hardware and a midi sequencer.

I love recording tracks straight live as it captures the spirit of the performer. I could do this piece a million times over and it would never come out the same as this version. That to me is the very essence of projecting from your soul. You learn a great deal making music this way. You learn to have to get good at your craft as once it’s recorded there’s no going back, no overdubs, no time for mistakes, it is what it is.

Lucid Dream

Made by programing the drums first in Logic Pro and then everything else done in one take on the turntable and using vintage synths, wah wah pedal and a space echo. This was also done about a year and a half ago.

Breathless

A track done about a year and a half ago. Arranged in Logic Pro this is more produced than the last couple of tracks I have uploaded. I still add some layers with turntable here as well as featuring heavily on vintage synths. I overdubbed  the bass and looped that part but the solos and noodles were done in one take.

The Sermon Of The Sea

An ambient Jazz styled piece I did about a year and a half ago. I created this again predominately by turntable. I also am playing the Upright Bass and old vintage synths running through a space echo.

Each layer of this was done in one take without use of click tracks or other various means of keeping time. I just wanted to let go and record in one take to essentially record the ‘moment’.

Homeless In the City

This track was made entirely on the turntable. I was inspired by my visits to Manchester a few years back and seeing just how many people were homeless about the place. Not that I hadn’t been in contact with the homeless before by any means, but when you spend a lot more time in the City as apposed to a Town you are more exposed to many different walks of life.

I passed one guy on Oxford Road train station and it conjured up some heart felt emotions . I came back to Crewe and made what I felt into sound.

Day Turns To Night

Day Turns To Night is a track I did about 2 years ago. I was inspired by a few things when doing this, namely the way I was feeling at that time. I was still living in my home town of Crewe but knew I wasn’t comfortable there and needed to change my direction in life and so the foundations of moving to Manchester were very much in the for-front of my head.

The way I made this piece was predominantly made by using the Vestax Controller One turntable which has the ability to play pitches and scales like a traditional instrument (I will go more into that as i build the site up with various information) and a delay pedal so I can sustain notes, chords and tones.

This was made just after I had got the turntable and I was learning (scratching the surface) this brand new instrument. It’s quite funny as I was not going to add sketches like this to my site as I feel I have progressed in leaps and bounds with the turntable since I did this, but, I’m starting to think you have to be humble and show the origins of were you have come from with your art. Something I was quite shy about doing in the past.
